2007: Death of the German Baptist theologian and Biblical scholar Wiard Popkes. - He was a member of the leadership of the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague and involved in the European Baptist Federation.
1921: The commercial radio station KDKA AM in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, started the first Christian radio broadcasts in the United States.
1907: In France, a law separating church and state entered into force, making France a nonreligious state.
1873: Birth of Thérèse de Lisieux, a French Catholic saint. – Saint Therese, recognized as a Doctor of the Church by Pope John Paul II, was called “The Little Flower of Jesus.” She enjoyed close spiritual intimacy with God and is considered by many as the greatest Catholic saint of the modern times. She said, “My mission – to make God loved – will begin after my death.” She died in 1897 at the age of 24.
1872: Death of the German Lutheran theologian Wilhelm Löhe, who contributed to the public prominence of the German Lutheran church.
1492: Completion of the Christian reconquest of Spain (La Reconquista) . - Spanish Christians, led by King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella I, captured Granada, the last Muslim stronghold in Spain.
