(Gloriscope.com) – The Colombian Christian musical group CanZion, established in 1987, organized protest marches against the terrorist organization FARC in 45 Colombian cities and 125 cities in other countries last Monday. CanZion organized rallies in the Colombian capital Bogota and other cities using its own mass media and the Facebook social networking site on the Web.

FARC, which stands for Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, is a guerilla movement that has kidnapped over 700 people. (FARC has posed a risk for Christian missionaries, too.)

The military and terrorist activities of FARC are a major national problem in Colombia and have attracted the attention of the international community as well. In June 2007, Colombian public opinion was outraged by the news that FARC had killed eleven kidnapped members of the Colombian parliament.

The Christian musicians of CanZion organized the protests for the noble purpose of demanding peace and justice in face of FARC’s violence against peaceful citizens. The protest marches in Colombian cities and in other countries demanded immediate liberation of all persons kidnapped by FARC.

During the marches, Colombians wore white shirts with the words “No more lies, no more kidnappings, no more FARC.”

Protest marches in support of the demands of CanZion and the Colombian people against FARC were also held in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Lima, Panama, London, Rome, San Jose and other cities.

After the successful protest campaign in Colombia and other countries, the CanZion group said, “We thank the Lord who allowed us to carry out this gigantic mobilization of Colombia and Colombians around the world who pray for peace for our country.”

“I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing
like a green tree in its native soil,
but he soon passed away and was no more;
though I looked for him, he could not be found.
Consider the blameless, observe the upright;
there is a future for the man of peace.
But all sinners will be destroyed;
the future of the wicked will be cut off.
The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
The LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.
(Psalm 37:35-40 NIV)
