Croatia | The Gospel
The truth of the Cross is the power of the Church

(Gloriscope.com) – The beautiful old walled city of Dubrovnik on the Croatian coast of the Adriatic Sea, an old center of Christian culture, celebrated its patron saint St. Blaise (Sveti Vlaho) in the presence of the Catholic archbishop Marin Barishich and six regional bishops.

The bishop of Krk, Valter Zhupan, said that the Cross is “folly” to unbelievers in the world, but that the “folly” of the Cross is the moral and spiritual power of the Church, which has been effective during twenty centuries. “This is God’s power,” he said. “The Church never wins by itself, the victory comes by the truth that is in the Church, and that truth is Jesus Christ.”

Catholics | Charitable collection
Catholic campaign to help European churches

(Gloriscope.com) – The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has declared February 6, 2008, the day of money collection to benefit the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Donations will be used to renovate and/or expand Catholic churches, seminaries, schools, youth and social ministries, pastoral centers, and other facilities. Some of the money will go for spreading the Gospel through mass media. Russia is included in the money drive, which means that some of the money may be used in Siberia and other far-away parts of Asian Russia, where Catholics and other Christians were suffering terribly during the Soviet Communist regime.

Mongolia | Catholic missionaries
15 years of Catholic missions in Mongolia

(Gloriscope.com) – Mongolia, once a Communist-ruled ally of the Soviet Union, opened itself to foreign Christian missionaries in 1992, after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. Bishop Wenceslao Padilla and two other missionaries arrived to Mongolia in 1992, when Mongolia and the Vatican established diplomatic relations. In this Asian country, where the predominant religion is Tibetan Buddhism, there are now 64 Catholic missionaries from 18 countries. The number of local Roman Catholics is 415 – last year 70 Mongolians were baptized.

There are now four Catholic parishes and five Catholic mission stations (holding regular Sunday Masses) in this vast and sparsely populated country, all led by foreign missionaries. About 500 Mongolian children are involved in the children’s ministry.

Scientology | Web
Testimonies of former Scientologists

(Gloriscope.com) – A new website, www.scientology-victims-testimonies.com, has been launched to give voice to people who tell about their inside experience and knowledge of Scientology. The website contains video testimonies of former Scientologists Arnie Lerma, Jim Beebe and Tory Christman. It also features a YouTube copy of a British television documentary on Scientology produced by the respected BBC documentary program Panorama.

The website, the first-ever website of video testimonies about Scientology, was developed by anti-Scientology activists in Europe, apparently in Germany, where Scientology has long been under scrutiny by news media and the authorities.

In a separate development, a worldwide protest against Scientology is planned for February 10, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. local time in each time zone.

The anti-Scientology group “Anonymous” told the U.S. TV station NBC11 in San Francisco that yet another anti-Scientology protest is planned for March 15, 2008, on the birthday of L. Rin Hubbard, the science fiction writer who founded Scientology. (For a background on the so-called “War against Scientology” by the group Anonymous, see Wikinews.
